Sophal is a 35-year-old mother of one from Cambodia. She lives with her 6-year-old daughter and husband in Kandal province. Her husband works as a water deliveryman while Sophal sells groceries from a stall in their village. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her daughter and watching TV.
On December 16th, 2024, Sophal developed an abscess on her left jaw region. She took pain medication, but it didn’t improve. The abscess became swollen and produced pus, leading her to seek treatment at a hospital. She continues to experience pus and discomfort when moving her mouth.
On January 9th, surgeons at Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), will help Sophal and remove the mass. Sophal can contribute $100 but needs your help to raise $173 more to fund her procedure and care.
Sophal shared, “I hope that after the treatment, I will feel more comfortable and no longer have to worry about this issue getting worse.”

On the advice of a friend, Sophal took a bus from Kampong Thom province to CSC for diagnosis and treatment where she had surgery to repair the fistula and remove the source of the chronic infection. She spent the night at the hospital and was able to return to her province the day after her surgery. She received oral antibiotics to reduce the chance of reinfection, cleaned her wound every other day, and had her stitches removed a week after surgery. Sophal is relieved she will no longer have fevers, pain, or discharge and wants to return to selling groceries to supplement the family income. She looks forward to feeling well again and spending time with her family.
Sophal’s husband said, “We are grateful for the successful operation and good care for Sophal. Thank you to the doctors who were able to make her healthy again.”
