Nith is a four-year-old girl from Cambodia.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), tells us “Nith was born with a cataract in each eye.” Cataracts are cloudiness that form at the lenses in the eye. The condition has caused Nith to struggle with seeing and walking, and if left untreated, could lead to blindness.
CSC can help Nith with cataract repair surgery. To help her vision, they will remove her clouded lenses and replace them with new prosthetic lenses. After years of struggling with her vision, this surgery will allow Nith to “be able to see clearly for the first time”
Treatment will cost $225, which covers medical and surgical expenses, as well as a two day stay in the hospital and a follow-up visit with an eye doctor.
More than anything, Nith’s mother wants her daughter to be able to go to school and “play like the other kids.”

Nith received vision-restoring cataract surgery.
Nith can see clearly again for the first time since birth. She will no longer have to deal with the effects of cataracts, and will grow up with a much lower risk of further vision problems.
Nith’s surgery lasted approximately 45 minutes, during which her clouded lenses were replaced with artificial implants. She can return to Children’s Surgical Centre at any time for follow-up care if she experiences complications, but she has been discharged and is expected to make a full recovery.
“I feel happy that my daughter can see better than before,” Nith’s mother shared. “Now she can play with her friends and I won’t worry about her vision anymore.”
