Kimmuoy is a 72-year-old grandmother from Cambodia. She is a widow and lives with her daughter, son-in-law, and three teenage grandchildren. Her daughter and son-in-law sell vegetable soup from their home, and the oldest grandchild helps with the business. Because Kimmuoy is wheelchair-bound, she is unable to help with any cooking or cleaning. During her free time, she enjoys listening to local monk prayers broadcast over the radio.
Thirteen years ago, Kimmuoy had a stroke, causing paralysis on the left side of her body, affecting the muscles and motor skills on her left side. She has difficulty moving or controlling those parts of the body. She experiences spasticity and limited movement in her hand and leg, making her reliant on a wheelchair. After extensive consultations, doctors plan to perform a cervical rhizotomy, a surgical procedure in which the nerve root located in the cervical spine is selectively cut or partially severed to reduce spasticity in the upper limb.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is helping Kimmuoy receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo the tendon and nerve repair procedure on February 12th. Kimmuoy and her family can contribute $100 but they need your support to raise $472 more to fund her procedure and care.
Kimmuoy’s sister said: “We hope that after the operation, Kimmuoy might walk again and become healthier.”
