“For the last two months Thu Zar has been experiencing severe abdominal bleeding, back pain, and body aches,” write our partners at Burma Border Projects (BBP). “She also finds it difficult to sleep and eat, and is constantly worried about her future and the future of her family.”
Thu Zar has been diagnosed with a molar pregnancy, which occurs when tissue that would normally become a fetus instead becomes an abnormal uterine growth. Even though it isn’t a fetus, the growth triggers symptoms of pregnancy and results in the symptoms Thu Zar is experiencing.
Thu Zar lives with her husband and children in a refugee camp in Thailand. Because she is ill, Thu Zar’s husband has stopped working to take care of her. While she seeks treatment, a neighbor is taking care of the couple’s children. “Thu Zar feels sad and guilty because she is not able to be there for them,” BBP tells us.
For $1,500 we can fund a hysterectomy for Thu Zar.“With treatment, Thu Zar will be able to live a life without pain and constant stress about her health,” the BBP team tells us. “Thu Zar will be able to return to camp with her children, whom she misses very much.”
