Alemayew is a 56-year-old woman from Ethiopia. She is a mother of seven children, and sells butter for a living. Most of her children have moved to the city to find work, and she now lives with two of her children, and two grandchildren.
About 15 years ago, Alemayew underwent cataract surgery in her right eye. Two years ago, her left eye started developing a cataract, which is a clouding of the lens of the eye, blurring vision. The condition has made everyday tasks more difficult, and night vision almost impossible. Alemayew is worried that if the condition gets worse, she might lose her vision, her independence, and her income.
Fortunately, Alemayew is scheduled to undergo cataract surgery with the help of our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital. Surgeons will remove and replace the blurred lens. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, Alemayew needs help to raise $150 to fund this procedure.
