Emily is pregnant and hoping to deliver at a health center. Her family earns an income by selling maize and beans from their farm. So far, Emily’s pregnancy has gone well, with the exception of back pain when she works. Continued medical attention will keep Emily and the baby healthy.
Lwala Community Alliance provides healthcare and education to keep its community healthy. Its maternal health program teaches mothers how to care for themselves. When asked what she hoped for, Emily replied: “My hope is to deliver at the Lwala facility and give birth to a healthy baby.”
For $215, Emily and her baby will receive prenatal care at Lwala’s clinic. Emily will also be able to deliver her baby in a hospital and get a post-birth checkup for mom and baby.
