“Twelve years ago Vas had boiling water spilled on her hand,” explains our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). “The resulting scars have formed contractures on her right hand from the 2nd to the 5th finger.”
Vas is 14 years old, and lives in Cambodia with her parents, three brothers, and one sister. “She is in the fifth grade at school, where her favorite subject is math,” CSC shares.
The burn scar on Vas’ right hand has become thicker and tighter over time, forming a contracture that limits movement of her hand and fingers. Doctors recommend surgery for Vas.
CSC continues, “She has trouble trying to write in school and can’t carry most things very well.” Because of the way her hand looks, Vas gets teased.
Fortunately, doctors can repair the scars and improve the function of Vas’ hand for $240. Vas will undergo treatment to remove the scars and receive physiotherapy to redevelop the mobility of her hand. $240 also covers a five-day hospital stay, post-operative care and all necessary medications.
“Vas is hopeful that her hand will look normal,” shares CSC. Let’s help Vas receive treatment so she can perform well in school and regain full mobility of her hand!
