Htar is a 45-year-old Burmese woman who currently lives in Thailand with her husband. She works as a seamstress, and her husband works as a day laborer. In her free time, Htar likes to go on walks and meditate.
About three months ago, Htar started to experience strong stomachaches, bloating, and back pain that intensified while she was on her period. As her pain continued to increase, Htar was referred to our medical partner’s care center, Mae Sot General Hospital, where she was diagnosed with a uterine myoma, or a benign tumorous growth in her uterus.
Htar has difficulty eating and feels worried about the operation’s costs. Due to her symptoms, Htar has been unable to work for the past two months, and her husband has remained at home more frequently in order to take care of her. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is therefore requesting $960 to fund a myomectomy for Htar so that the growth in her uterus may be removed.
The treatment is scheduled to take place on June 23 and, once completed, will hopefully alleviate Htar of her symptoms, allowing her to live more comfortably.
