Loem is a 74-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He is married and has five sons and five grandchildren. He likes to listen to monks pray at the pagoda in his free time.
Around two years ago, Loem developed a cataract in each eye, causing him blurred vision. Over time, his sight deteriorated, and it has become difficult for him to do any work easily, see things clearly, or go anywhere by himself.
Loem knew about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), because his son had surgery there. He traveled for three hours with his daughter-in-law to reach CSC for treatment.
On January 12, Loem will undergo cataract surgery. Surgeons will remove the cataracts in his eyes and then implant an artificial lens in each eye. After the surgery, Loem will be able to see clearly again. CSC is requesting $292 to fund this treatment.
Loem says, “I hope that I can see more clearly than now because I want to farm again.”
