Meet Apeksha, a playful, eighteen-month-old girl living in Nepal with her mother and two older sisters. Her family farms for a living, and Apeksha herself loves playing with toys with her sisters.
Recently, Apeksha has developed abscesses on her face—collections of pus that have built up inside the tissues of her skin. Although she went to a local clinic to cure the first abscess, two other, larger wounds have developed and are very painful, particularly when she forgets and sleeps on the side with the abscess. Additionally, she has developed a fever and been bedridden for the past few days. “Sometimes she just sits and cries because the abscess hurts so much,” Apeksha’s mother says.
For $220, Apeksha’s abscess can be cured. According to our medical partner, Possible, “The treatment through incision and drainage will ensure that the wound is clear of pus and will heal it in a hygienic manner.” Apeksha’s fever will go down, and she’ll be back on her feet.
“Had it not been for this hospital, I would’ve had to take loans and treat my child in private clinics,” says Apeksha’s mother. “I am assured the doctors here can cure my child.”
