Richard is a three-year-old boy from rural Uganda who comes from an area that has been stricken by famine due to the absence of rain for the past eight months. His grandparents are subsistence farmers, however recent conditions have greatly affected their yields.
For the past three months, Richard has been suffering from malnutrition. His condition has intensified and is accompanied by physical weakness, loss of appetite, and extreme weight loss. Without treatment, Richard is at risk of experiencing severe physical and developmental delays.
Our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, is requesting $316 to fund malnutrition treatment for Richard. The treatment is scheduled to be administered on July 6 and includes a ten-night hospital stay, medications, labs, and provision of nutrient-rich formulas. With time, Richard will hopefully recover and go back to the activities that he enjoys, such as playing with other children in the community and walking with his grandmother. His grandmother is looking forward to sending Richard to school once he is of age.
His grandmother shares, “I thank the donors for supporting the care of my grandchild. It was difficult to get means to bring him to transport him to hospital. May God bless the donors.”
