Sy Neang is a 15-year-old student from Cambodia. She lives in Kampong Chhnang province with her parents and her five-year-old brother. Her father is a tuk tuk tricycle driver, and her mother works in a garment factory. In her free time, she enjoys reading and helping her mother around the house. She hopes to attend university and become a lawyer when she grows up.
Sy Neang was was born with a mass on her right eye. Over time, the mass has grown larger, affecting her vision and appearance. The mass makes her feel self-conscious, especially at school. This affects her confidence and ability to participate fully in social and educational activities.
Sy Neang traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On December 3rd, surgeons at Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the mass. Now, Sy Neang needs help to raise $344 to fund this procedure.
Sy Neang’s father said, ”After the surgery I hope that my daughter can feel more confident and focus more on school.”

Sy Neang has surgery to remove the benign mass from her right eye for improved vision and appearance. Prior to discharge, she had post-operative swelling and continues to take mild pain relief medication to manage comfort. She will return in one week to have her sutures removed, and after a couple of weeks, she will begin gentle massage of the area to encourage healing and reduce the appearance of incision scarring. As she recovers, she is expected to see more clearly, focus on her schoolwork, regain confidence, and participate more comfortably in social activities.
Sy Neang’s family shared, “We are grateful she had the surgery, and we hope she can now feel better at school and with her friends.”
