Seven-year-old Debi is a student living in Ethiopia, with his parents and younger sister. Debi's childhood should be full of play and learning, but it has unfortunately been shaped by illness instead. For more than four years, Debi has lived with epilepsy, for which he takes medicine on a daily basis to control his seizures. Over the past year, a second problem has made life even more difficult. His tonsils repeatedly became badly infected, and at one point, his condition grew so severe, that he had to leave his KG 2 class. His education has been on hold ever since. His swollen tonsils keep him in constant discomfort. He has high fevers that return again and again, and he struggles to swallow his food, snores heavily, and is unable to sleep through the night. When the infection flares up, his parents have to rush him to the hospital, and he often stays there for days. The family is also under great strain for other reasons. Last year, Debi's father, a civil servant, was badly hurt in a car accident, and has only recently returned to work after a prolonged absence. His mother finished her studies last year, but has not been able to find a job. For Debi's parents, the cost of caring for him is overwhelming. Each flare-up brings another emergency trip to the hospital, and his seizure medicine is a cost they must meet every month. Our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, is requesting $700 to fund a tonsillectomy for Debi, which is scheduled to take place on October 17th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils, hopefully relieving Debi of his symptoms, and helping him to live more comfortably. "We wish to see him strong again, sleeping through the night, and back at school with his friends. That would bring our family so much relief," said Debi's parents.

Pellan is a 35-year-old housewife from Uganda. Growing up, Pellan aspired to become an accountant, inspired by the professionalism and smart appearance of bank employees. Unfortunately, despite completing her education, she was unable to secure employment in her chosen profession. Her husband works as a boda boda motorcycle taxi rider. Pellan is pregnant, and doctors recommend she deliver via a caesarean section due to a high-risk pregnancy. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Pellan undergo a C-Section on October 31st. This procedure will cost $252, and Pellan needs your support. Pellan says, “When I learned about the support you could provide, I was relieved. Thank you for your help."

Ephraim is a 51-year-old man from Malawi. He is a father of five, and lives with his wife, three of his children, and three grandchildren. He depends on farming to provide for his family, growing maize and groundnuts. Although farming does not bring him much income, it usually provides enough food for the family and gives Ephraim a way to support those who depend on him. About a year ago, Ephraim started experiencing uncomfortable symptoms, prompting him to depend on medication and a catheter. Determined to find a lasting solution, he sought care from several hospitals but did not get the relief he needed. His family encouraged him to seek further treatment at our medical partner's care center, Nkhoma Mission Hospital. Upon examination, he was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Physicians at Nkhoma Hospital have determined that Ephraim should undergo a prostatectomy, a surgery to remove part or all of the prostate. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $530 to fund this procedure. The treatment is scheduled to take place at Nkhoma Hospital on September 9th and, once completed, it will hopefully improve Ephraim's quality of life. Ephraim said, "My hope is that this health problem will finally be resolved, so that I can return to living healthier again, and being there for my family."
