Chroeb lives in Kandal province with her husband and their two children. Chroeb’s husband is a rice farmer. She helps her family in the rice paddies during harvest time but mostly stays home to manage the household and care for the children.
In February 2023, she noticed a lump on her right knee. After it continued to grow, she visited a local clinic where the mass was biopsied and diagnosed as a synovial sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that tends to occur near large joints like the knees. Chroeb was able to receive chemotherapy in Thailand, but the tumor returned and it has become very painful. She has anemia from cancer and feels weak and tired.
Chroeb was referred by a local clinic to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, for further care. After a careful review, doctors recommend an amputation of her right leg to avoid the spread of cancer. Doctors will perform the surgery on May 14th. Chroeb and her family are able to contribute $100 but need help to raise $379 more for surgery and care. This will cover the procedure, post-operative hospitalization, medications, and physical therapy.
Chroeb shared, “I hope I will not be in pain and the cancer will not grow any place else after my operation.”
