Navy is a 57-year-old farmer. Married and residing with her elderly husband, Navy is blessed with seven children – two daughters and five sons – all of whom are married and live in Kampot province. As a dedicated rice farmer, Navy works in the fields throughout the day, contributing to her family's well-being alongside the support provided by their children. During the windy dry season, her evenings are devoted to caring for her husband and keeping her house clean. Six months ago, Navy tripped and fractured the humerus bone in her right upper arm. She had surgery, where hardware was placed to align her fractured bone into place for optimal healing. The metalwork is causing her chronic pain, risks infection, and she still has limited function in her arm. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On January 3rd, Navy will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $304. This procedure will remove the metal, and she hopes her chronic pain will be less. She said: "I hope after surgery, I will have no pain and can go back to farming and caring for my family."

Panha is a 39-year-old woman from Cambodia, married with three sons. Her sons are aged between 10 and 15 years, and are all school-going. Panha is a homemaker, while her husband works at a local health clinic. At the end of a long day, she enjoys taking walks with her husband along a nearby river. In December 2020, Panha had a motorcycle accident and fractured her left shinbone. During surgery, a nail was inserted to provide stability during the healing process. The nail has been causing discomfort and pain, irritating the surrounding soft tissues. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 1st, Panha will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will alleviate her symptoms and improve her quality of life. Panha is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of her treatment and needs help raising $204 more to fund the procedure. Panha says: "I hope I can walk easily again, and experience no more pain after the device is taken out of my leg."

Savan is a 69-year-old retired rice farmer. He lives in Prey Veang near the border of Cambodia and Vietnam with his family. He and his wife have three sons, four daughters, and twelve grandchildren. His youngest daughter still lives at home and helps support the family by working at a local construction company. At home, Savan and his wife like taking walks, spending time with family, caring for his chickens, and watching the news. About three months ago, Savan developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has been having difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about potential falls while walking, which has made him reluctant to venture out independently. When Savan learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On April 1st, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, Savan needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Savan shared, "I hope after surgery my eye can see better so I can easily go out in the village on my own and help take my grandkids to school."
