Priscillah is a happy 5-year-old from Kenya. She has a lively spirit and loves to play with her friends while at home and in school. Priscillah is the second born in a family of four kids. She came to the hospital with her father, who works in construction, and her mother is a homemaker. Four years ago, Priscillah was playing with her friends when she accidentally fell into a fire. She developed burn contracture on her left hand and fingers, which makes her unable to flex her fingers. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Priscillah receive treatment. On February 6th, surgeons at AMH's care center will perform a burn contracture release surgery. This surgery will allow Priscillah to be able to use her hands freely and will also boost her self-esteem as she plays with her friends and continues her education. AMH is requesting $840 to fund this procedure. Priscillah’s father shared: "I am looking forward to seeing my daughter fully recovered and using her hand like other children and continuing with her education fully. I will be very happy."

Naphin is a cheerful two-year-old girl from Cambodia. She lives with her mom and brother in rural Kampong Spueu province. Her mom sells duck eggs off the back of her bicycle in the surrounding villages and markets. At home, Naphin loves to play with dolls and enjoys eating soup with rice. Naphin was born with syndactyly of both hands. This means her little and ring fingers are fused together on both hands. It is difficult for her to use her hand to feed herself or pick up objects. Her mother worries that she will face challenges when she starts school. Fortunately, on May 8th, surgeons will perform a syndactyly repair procedure to separate and release the fused fingers. Naphin's family is able to contribute $50 but needs your help to raise $394 more to fund this procedure. After surgery, she will feel more comfortable and will be able to use her hands more easily. Naphin's mother shared, "After the surgery, I hope Naphin's fingers will be separated and she can use her hands to eat and write more easily."

Sobel is an unemployed 21-year-old who lives in Phnom Penh province with six other members of his family - his father and five siblings who all live together at home. His father is retired. Before his injury, Sobel had an engineering job and enjoyed playing volleyball with friends. In July 2023, on his way home from work, Sobel's motorcycle skidded on the rain-soaked surface, sending him crashing onto the pavement. He lost consciousness for several hours. His sister took him to a local hospital with a skull fracture, broken collarbone, and broken upper arm. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. Sobel is unable to lift his shoulder or hand, consequently stripping away his ability to work. The thought of navigating life with only one arm is hard for him to imagine. Sobel traveled to Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On January 2nd, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he hopes to restore function in his arm and hand and find a job to help his family. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $709 to fund this procedure. Sobel said: "I want to work like before and hope the surgeons can help me."
