Sophanna is a 29-year-old teacher from Cambodia. “He has three brothers, two sisters, and spends his time teaching English at the local church,” says our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). “He enjoys reading books, singing worship songs, and playing guitar.”
Sophanna fractured and dislocated his elbow when he fell off of a roof at the end of last year. “His left arm is swollen and he cannot flex his elbow,” explains CSC.
“I can’t go to work because of this problem and it is difficult for me to do anything, like getting dressed or teaching my students,” Sophanna shares.
For $405, Sophanna will undergo an operation known as an open reduction and internal fixation, during which an incision will be made near the injury and the fractured bone will then be moved and secured into its proper position.
“After an open reduction internal fixation surgery and the pinning of his left elbow, the fracture and dislocation will be corrected and Sophanna will be able to flex his arm again,” CSC reports. “He will be able to go home and continue teaching English at the local church.”
