Chantheary is a 17-year-old student from Cambodia who is in the tenth grade. She has two sisters and one brother. In her free time, Chantheary likes to draw pictures, read books, and do housework.
About a year ago, Chantheary developed a nasal polyp, or a benign growth on the lining of her nasal passage. Because of the polyp, Chantheary has been experiencing nasal obstruction, headaches, and a runny nose. It is difficult for her to breathe, and she has been unable to sleep well. She went to a pharmacy for medication, however her symptoms did not improve.
Chantheary and her mother traveled for six hours to reach our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), for treatment. CSC is requesting $267 to fund a nasal polypectomy for Chantheary, which will remove the polyp from her nasal passage. The procedure is scheduled to take place on July 6 and, once completed, will hopefully help Chantheary to breathe easily again.
