Sopha is a 24-year-old construction worker. He is married and he and his wife have a beautiful newborn daughter - only two months old. His wife is a farmer, and they live with his parents to save money. In his free time, he likes to play football, fish with his friends, and listen to music on his phone.
A week ago, Sopha was on a roof, trying to dislodge a high voltage electrical wire, when he was electrocuted. He suffered 3rd-degree burns on both of his hands and on his body. Infection has already set in on his hands. He has a lot of pain and cannot move from a stretcher. Right now it is difficult for him to eat or do anything for himself.
When his family learned about our medical partner from the provincial hospital, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and a half hours for a consultation and plan of care. Surgeons will not be able to save his hands due to the gangrene, but his symptoms will become more serious if no action is taken. Now he needs $446 for amputation of both of his hands and debridement of his infected areas on his body.
His mother is worried about him and shared, “We are hopeful that surgeons will do the best job possible for our son, and he will no longer be in such pain. We want him to return home to his family.”
