Baby Nardos is a cheerful and playful 8-month-old boy from Ethiopia. He enjoys playing with toys and spending time with other children. He lives with his parents and two older sisters. His father works as a carpenter, while his mother is a homemaker who dedicates her time to caring for the family. Baby Nardos was born with a condition called Hirschprung's disease. This is where a portion of the intestine does not have proper nerve function leaving a child with difficulty with bowel function. Doctors explained that he would need surgery but advised the family to wait until he was older and had grown enough to undergo the procedure. When Nardos was five months old, he was referred to our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids at Myungsung Christian Medical Center (BKMCM), for specialized treatment. Although the family initially felt anxious and uncertain, they were relieved to learn that Nardos could receive the care he needed. Surgeons will remove the part of the intestine that is not working properly and reconnect the healthy intestine to restore proper bowel function. Baby Nardos is scheduled to undergo this surgery on October 25th with the help of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. The procedure and follow-up care will cost $1,500, and Baby Nardos needs your help. Sokly is a 49-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He lives in Kandal with his widowed mother, who is a retired farmer. He divorced his wife four years ago, and his two children live with their mother. He has 11 siblings, all of whom are married and live in nearby provinces. In his free time, he enjoys looking after his ducks and chickens. One week ago, Sokly was riding his motorcycle in the rain when it slipped, causing him to fall and fracture his left proximal femur. He received first aid, but the hospital did not have the equipment needed for surgery, so he was referred to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. The fracture causes significant pain and prevents him from putting weight on his left leg or walking. He currently needs assistance to move around, making it difficult for him to work as a construction worker and manage his daily activities. On August 11th, Sokly will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will stabilize his fractured femur, relieve his pain, and help him regain the ability to walk so he can return to his normal daily activities and work. His family can contribute $50, but needs help raising $550 more to fund his procedure and care. Sokly said, “I hope the surgery will stabilize my fractured femur, relieve my pain, and help me walk again so I can return to my normal daily activities and work.”

Scovia is 58 years old and a mother of nine from Uganda. When she was 10, she lost both of her parents within a short period, leaving her and her siblings to be raised by their grandmother. She and her husband depend on farming as the family’s main source of livelihood. They primarily grow food crops such as beans, maize, and potatoes for household consumption and sell any surplus produce to generate income for her family’s needs. Twenty years ago, Scovia began to experience troubling symptoms, including a swelling at the front of her neck. Because the swelling grew slowly and was not painful, she did not initially seek medical attention. However, about a month ago, she began experiencing shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, and increasing breathing difficulties. Concerned about her worsening condition, she sought medical care at a nearby hospital where she was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. The thyroid is the gland located in front of your neck and produces thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for functions such as metabolism, growth, and other bodily functions. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Scovia receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on November 2nd. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need help raising money. Scovia says, “This has never been painful, but recently, I couldn’t breathe. Am always catching my breath and can’t do anything about it because of limited finances. I kindly appeal to you for support to have my surgery so I can continue farming and keep my children in school.”
