Baby Desta is a seven-month-old girl who lives in Ethiopia with her parents and two older brothers. She is active, cheerful, and loves smiling. Her father works as a daily laborer, while her mother is a homemaker. Despite limited income, her parents remain committed to fulfilling their children’s needs. Baby Desta was born with a condition called Hirschprung's disease. This is where a portion of the intestine does not have proper nerve function, causing bowel dysfunction. When she was about two weeks old, Baby Desta’s abdomen started to swell, prompting her mother to bring her to a health center. At the health center, the family was referred to a higher-level hospital. Baby Desta was admitted to the hospital, and doctors advised that she would require surgery to remove the affected part of the bowel, or she would continue to have symptoms and be at risk of serious complications. This greatly concerned her parents, who worried they could not afford treatment. Thankfully, after a long and stressful journey through multiple health facilities, the family was referred to our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre. Baby Desta will undergo surgery on November 2nd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,500 to cover the cost of the procedure and related medical care. Sao is a 61-year-old widow from Cambodia. She has three children and lives with her daughter. Her eldest child is a rice farmer, her second child works in Thailand, and her youngest is in Grade 10. She spends her free time caring for her grandchild and growing vegetables around her home. On July 20, 2025, Sao sustained a fracture of her right femur when a car struck her from behind in a road traffic accident. She was transferred to Vietnam, where surgeons stabilized the fracture with an intramedullary locking nail. However, the bone has not united, and she continues to need treatment. The unhealed fracture causes persistent pain in her right thigh and makes walking difficult. She relies on crutches and feels unstable when moving around, limiting her ability to carry out daily activities and care for her grandchild comfortably. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On October 20th, Sao will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will involve bone grafting at the fracture site, removal of the cerclage wires, and removal of the proximal screw to allow dynamization of the nail. These steps aim to encourage bone healing and improve stability in her right leg, helping her gradually regain more comfortable mobility. She can contribute $35, but needs help raising $550 more to fund her procedure and care. Sao's daughter said, “I worry about my mother because she is still in pain and struggles to walk after her accident. I hope this surgery helps her bone heal so she can walk more steadily, feel less pain, and return to her daily activities.”

Mary is a 58-year-old mother of six from Kenya. She spent years working hard to support herself by selling clothes in the market. Although her children are now grown and caring for families of their own, Mary continues to navigate many challenges. Mary first noticed a painful boil in her vulva area in October 2025. After seeking treatment at a nearby hospital, she found no relief. Instead, her condition worsened. By time Mary arrived at our facility in February 2026, tests revealed she had vulva cancer. The swelling made it difficult for her to carry out daily activities. More than anything, Mary longed for healing, relief from the pain, and the chance to regain her strength and dignity. Thanks to your support, Mary successfully underwent mass excision surgery to remove the infected and cancerous tissue. Since then, she has been healing well, with the pain and burning sensation greatly improved. She now requires skin graft surgery to properly cover and protect the affected area. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Mary receive treatment. On May 18th, surgeons will perform a debridement and skin graft procedure to continue her journey toward recovery. Now, Mary needs help to fund this $1,185 procedure. Mary says, “I was so afraid the disease would keep spreading. Now I have hope again, and I pray this next surgery will help me heal completely and regain my strength.”
