Phong is a lovely grandmother from Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. She is 77 years old and works as a street food vendor. She is a widow; her husband passed away six months ago due to liver disease. She has three sons, two daughters, and ten grandchildren. Currently, she lives with her third daughter, who works in a garment factory. In her free time, she enjoys visiting the pagoda. Five years ago, Phong developed a pterygium in her right eye, causing her excessive tearing, irritation, and redness, which made her feel uncomfortable. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage, wind, or dust, and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Phong learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. Phong needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. She is scheduled for surgery on May 4th. Phong can contribute $25, but needs help raising $273 more to fund her procedure and care. Phong said, "I hope that after surgery, my vision will improve so I can see clearly again, move around easily, and continue going out to sell food as before."

Loishorwa is a seven-year-old boy from Tanzania. He lives with his parents, who are livestock keepers, and he is the fourth child in a family of four. His daily life includes helping with light household tasks and caring for animals after school. He is currently in class one and enjoys being around other children. Loishorwa was diagnosed with bilateral genu valgus, affecting the alignment of his legs. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. The condition causes discomfort when he walks or stands for long periods and makes physical activities more difficult. Although he is motivated to attend school and participate in play, his mobility limitations reduce his endurance and confidence. This surgery and recovery care will help ensure that Loishorwa can remain active in school. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $777 to fund treatment for Loishorwa. The procedure is scheduled to take place on February 10th at our medical partner's care center, Kafika House. Treatment will hopefully restore Loishorwa's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Loishorwa's father says, “He gets tired and complains of pain when walking to school, and he cannot move as freely as other children.”

James is a 57-year-old farmer from Malawi, married with four children. He is the sole provider for his family, relying entirely on subsistence farming to put food on the table. In October 2025, James was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the lower abdominal muscles, causing a bulge in the groin area. The condion has been causing on-and-off swelling, and over time, it's been accompanied by worsening pain, making it difficult for him to continue farm work. James is hopeful that undergoing surgery will improve his condition, restore his ability to work, and enable him to continue providing for his family. Fortunately, on April 9th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery with the help of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. James is raising $575 to fund the procedure, which will allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. James says, "I heard about the donor program that has assisted many patients at this hospital (Partners in Hope Medical Center). I hope I can also receive support for my treatment."
