“It is hard to recognize faces clearly, do any work, or go anywhere by myself,” shares Chantha, a 75-year-old woman from Cambodia.
Two years ago, Chantha developed a cataract in her left eye, explains our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). Common among elderly patients, a cataract occurs as proteins accumulate to form a filmy layer over the eye lens.
Over time, this cloudy layer gradually solidifies to progressively worsen vision. At this stage of her condition, Chantha is partially blind.
For $150, Chantha will receive surgery on her left eye. During this brief operation, the old, cloudy lens will be removed and replaced with a sheer implant.
Married with one son, one daughter, and two grandchildren, “Chantha spends her time reading books and listening to the monks praying on the radio,” CSC shares.
After this brief, simple treatment, Chantha will be able to see clearly again.

Chantha received vision-restoring cataract surgery.
After a brief, 40-minute procedure, “Chantha can see everything clearly again. She has been instructed to apply eye drops daily to protect herself from infection,” reports our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre.
“I am very happy that I can see everything clearly,” Chantha shares. “Now I can read any letter, help my family cook food, take care of my grandchild at home, and I can easily go to the pagoda or anywhere by myself very well too.”
Her daughter, who accompanied her to the clinic, extends her thanks to the donors and providers at CSC for their support of her mother.
