Bi is a 62-year-old retired rice farmer from Kampong Cham province. She is married with one son, four daughters, and ten grandchildren. She lives with her husband and their third daughter, both of whom also work as rice farmers. At home, Bi enjoys cooking for her grandchildren and listening to the Buddhist radio station. About six months ago, Bi developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. Bi has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Bi learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On August 12th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, Bi will be able to see clearly. Bi and her family are able to contribute $100 towards the cost of her treatment and need help raising $153 more to fund the procedure. Bi says, "I hope to see more clearly so that I can take my grandchildren to school and walk to the pagoda on my own."

Bunrith is a high school student from Cambodia. He lives with his mother and three siblings in Kandal Province, while his father works as a truck driver in another province. Bunrith just completed the 9th grade and enjoys science. At home, he likes to eat rice with stir-fried beef. In his free time, he enjoys helping his mother cook for the family and watching cooking channels on social media. In May 2023, Bunrith was in a road traffic accident which resulted in a fracture of his right ankle. He was taken to a private clinic in Phnom Penh where he underwent an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) surgery. During the procedure, the doctor fixated a plate and screws to facilitate the healing of his fracture. Now, the fracture has healed, but the metalwork is uncomfortable and it is difficult for him to walk. His family does not have enough savings to support further surgeries at the hospital where Bunrith was initially treated. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On July 11th, Bunrith will undergo a hardware removal procedure that will help him walk easily again. Bunrith's family was able to contribute $100 towards his medical costs but needs help to raise $204 more to fund the procedure. Bunrith hopes that he will be able to return to school soon, and be able to walk more comfortably.

Meet Koemseng, an 11-year-old boy from Kampong Chhnang province, Cambodia. His parents work as construction workers and his younger brother is in kindergarten. Koemseng is currently in 5th grade and enjoys his Khmer history class. At home, he likes to eat fried fish and eggs with rice and plays with his little brother. When Koemseng was six years old, he had a fever and received an injection in his left thigh at a local clinic. This caused quadriceps contracture, where the muscle became abnormally tight and shortened in his left leg. This condition left him unable to fully flex his left knee and caused an unusual walking pattern. A local hospital suggested that Koemseng's parents visit our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), to seek help. Koemseng and his parents traveled for two and a half hours for diagnosis and treatment. On July 17th, Koemseng will undergo surgery on his left leg which will help lengthen and release the tight muscle, allowing the knee to bend more freely and improving overall leg function. Koemseng's family is able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $472 more to fund this procedure. Koemseng's father hopes that Koemseng can walk better and return to school to see his friends as soon as possible.
