Socheat is a nine-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives in rural Kampong Chnang province with his parents and younger sister. His parents work as farmers, growing corn and beans. Socheat is in fourth grade, and his favorite subject is Khmer. He dreams of becoming a doctor when he grows up. In his free time, he enjoys cycling with his friends and playing outdoors. His favorite meals are stir fried beef and fish soup.
When Socheat was a baby, he fell and injured his right leg. A local clinic administered several injections of pain-killers in his right thigh. Since then, his knee gradually became stiff, and he developed difficulty bending his right leg. He has difficulty walking, playing with friends, and doing every day tasks.
When Socheat learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On September 1st, surgeons at CSC will perform a quadricepsplasty procedure of his right leg The treatment will help him bend his knee more comfortably and walk more easily. Now, Socheat needs help to fund this $579 procedure.
Socheat said, “We hope our son can use his leg more easily so that he can play and focus more on his studies at school.”
