Emily is a 48-year-old mother from Uganda. She completed the 6th grade, but then had to drop out due to political instability in Rwanda, which affected some places bordering Uganda, including her family. She is now married with 6 children - the eldest is married, and the others are all in school. Emily practices small-scale farming, and her husband is a herdsman. They own a four-room mud house for shelter.
Six years ago, Emily developed a small painless swelling on the left shoulder. It later progressively increased in size resulting in a mass. She is often uncomfortable, and it hinders her productivity. A scan revealed a mass in her shoulder and excision surgery was recommended by the medical team. Her primary worry is it could result in cancer if not treated.
Fortunately, our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) can help. Emily is scheduled for a procedure on October 11th, when surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Emily needs help raising $145 to fund this procedure.
Emily says, “I’m worried the swelling would become cancerous if not treated. Once I am better, I want to be able to keep farming and supporting my family.”
