Girdhari is a 35-year-old auto-rickshaw driver from India. He lives with his wife, three children, parents, and siblings. He shares a close bond with his parents and siblings and takes pride in contributing to the household through his work as an auto-rickshaw driver. About a year and a half ago, Girdhari sustained severe burn injuries in a workplace accident. While working as a cook, hot oil spilled onto a stove and triggered a sudden fire, leaving his legs badly burned. He was treated at a local hospital, but did not receive the specialized burn care needed for proper healing. Over time, this has led to serious complications — his feet have developed contractures, leaving them tilted and making walking painful and difficult. Girdhari now requires corrective surgery and rehabilitation to restore function and improve his quality of life. With timely medical intervention, he has a strong chance of regaining better mobility and continuing to support his family. Fortunately, on April 23rd, our medical partner, GS Memorial Plastic Surgery Hospital and Trauma Center, will help Girdhari undergo burn contracture release surgery to restore movement and improve his quality of life. Girdhari is receiving support from G.S. Memorial Trust, but needs help raising $726 more to fund their procedure and care. Girdhari said, "After this surgery, I am hopeful to fully recover and regain my mobility. That way, I can feel confident to seek out more job opportunities to support my family."

Sabita is 12 years old and a 5th-grade student from India. She is the youngest among six siblings, having four brothers and two sisters. Sabita is cheerful, cooperative, and emotionally resilient. She enjoys drawing and dancing, which reflect her creative and lively personality. She comes across as a determined child with a positive attitude towards treatment and recovery, supported closely by her family. Her family engages in farming and daily wage labor. About 10 years ago, Sabita sustained a severe burn injury after accidentally falling into boiling curry. The injury resulted in post-burn scars and contractures involving her right hand, elbow, and forearm, leading to difficulty in movement and function. Sabita has been receiving care with our medical partner, G.S. Memorial Plastic Surgery Hospital and Trauma Center, and has been under follow-up for the management of post-burn treatment. The burn injury and resulting post-burn contractures have significantly affected Sabita's mobility, function, and daily activities. Her scars and limited movement also affect her self-confidence and social interactions with peers. These limitations may interfere with academic performance, play, and participation in extracurricular activities such as dancing, which she enjoys. When Sabita's family learned about G.S. Memorial Plastic Surgery Hospital and Trauma Center, they traveled for 2.5 hours seeking treatment. On May 27th, specialty surgeons will perform a burn contracture release surgery, which will improve her mobility and prevent further worsening of the post-burn contractures. Now, she needs help to fund this $1,442 procedure. Sabita's father shared, "Our only wish is that our daughter can use her hand properly and live like other children. She has suffered a lot since childhood, yet she always stays cheerful and brave."

Dampi is a 19-year-old girl pursuing her Bachelor's in Political Science from India. Dampi comes from a humble farming family in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. Her father works as a farmer and her mother is a homemaker. She is the third of four siblings. One of her brothers has started working independently, while the other two are still studying. Dampi has been living with epilepsy since the age of 10 and has been on medication for the condition ever since. In 2023, after returning home from school, she experienced an epileptic episode while cooking. During the fall, a hot utensil overturned onto her, causing severe burn injuries to her right hand and wrist. Dampi was first taken to another hospital for treatment, but her condition did not improve. Her parents later brought her to G.S Memorial Hospital. Although Dampi tries to remain independent and says she can manage her daily activities, her burn injuries continue to cause physical discomfort and restrictions in her day-to-day life. The condition has affected her mobility and comfort, making treatment and surgery important for improving her quality of life. When Dampi learned about our medical partner, G.S. Memorial Plastic Surgery Hospital and Trauma Center, she traveled four hours seeking treatment. On May 21st, specialty surgeons will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help release the tight scar tissue caused by her burn injuries. This will improve her mobility, comfort, and ability to carry out daily activities more easily. The treatment is also expected to reduce pain and discomfort so Dampi can regain greater confidence and independence in her everyday life. Now, G.S. Memorial is requesting $1,442 to fund her procedure. "I am happy that I am finally getting this surgery," shares Dampi.
