Leang Sim is a seven-year-old 1st grade student. She has one older brother who is 11 years old and in the 6th grade. Their father sells vegetables at the market and their mother is a vegetable farmer. When Leang Sim is not at school she likes to play with toys with her brother, read books, watch TV, and go outside with her parents. When Leang Sim was one, her mother first noticed she had a curved spine. Doctors have now diagnosed Leang Sim with thoracolumbar scoliosis. She arrived at Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) with a curved spine reporting difficulty walking, sleeping, and trouble breathing after strenuous activity. Surgeons at CSC will place an extending rod inside Leang Sim's back to help improve her condition now and as she grows, the rod will be extended to alleviate her scoliosis. Leang Sim's mother is hopeful for the surgery and said, "I hope my daughter can walk well after surgery."

“For a decade, Raty has lived with Chronic Otitis Media (COM), a condition associated with ear discharge, inflammation, and hearing loss,” writes our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre. “This causes him trouble in school when the teacher is speaking… and has caused him to become shy and unconfident in social settings.” Raty is 15 years old and enjoys learning. His favorite activity is participating in Taekwondo after school every day! But without proper treatment, Raty's infection will only worsen and can even spread to his brain. Raty’s grandmother, who serves as his primary caretaker, worries that she will not be able to take care of him for much longer, due to her old age. By raising $221, we can cover the cost of a myringoplasty, which will eliminate the discharge from his ears and improve his hearing.

Samjhana hopes to one day become a teacher and help her community, a mountainous area in Nepal where the average person lives on less than $1 a day. She loves studying science, running, and playing volleyball, and like most teenaged girls, just wants to fit in. Last year, Samjhana began experiencing severe abdominal pain. Her mother was extremely worried. She was unable to stop crying when she brought her to Nyaya Health’s facility for help. When doctors at Nyaya examined Samjhana, they discovered that she has an anatomical genital deformity that, if left uncorrected, will threaten her reproductive health for the rest of her life. This is a serious condition that can be treated with surgery, but Samjhana’s family is nowhere near able to pay for the kind of specialized care she needs. With treatment, Samjhana’s doctors are confident that she will be able to live a normal, healthy life. We need to raise $1245 to cover the cost of Samjhana’s surgery, medication, and travel.
