Sanay is a three-month-old baby girl from Burma. She lives with her family in Mine Kan Village, Hpa-An Township, Karen State. Only her 19-year-old brother is currently working and supporting their family. He works at a chicken factory in Bangkok. Sanay was recently diagnosed with hydrocephalus, which has caused fluid to build up in her brain. Without immediate surgery to alleviate the intracranial pressure that the excess fluid is causing, she is at risk of developing severe, potentially fatal medical complications. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund the insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt for Sanay, which will drain the fluid that has accumulated in her brain. The procedure is scheduled to take place on September 6, and, once completed, will greatly improve Sanay's quality of life. “I want my daughter to become a nurse when she grows up,” says Sanay’s father.

Ann is a wife and mother of five children from Kenya. Her husband is a cobbler in Nakuru, and some of her children are in high school. Ann cares for her mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago and is recovering from treatment. Ann has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. A mastectomy, a surgery to remove breast tissue, has been suggested to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $816 to cover the cost of a mastectomy for Ann. The procedure is scheduled to take place on May 9. After treatment, Ann will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. Ann says, “My hope is that soon I will be treated and fight cancer with the resilience with which my mother has fought it."

Iwalani is a farmer from Malawi. He is a retired police officer who now runs a small farm with his wife. They have two children and many, many grandchildren. Iwalani enjoys tending his land, attending church with his family, and playing games with his village friends. Since January 2018, Iwalani has been experiencing pain and urinary difficulty. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Iwalani's surgery. On March 8, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. Iwalani was thrilled to find out his surgery would be funded. He is ready to have his procedure and get back to his normal life. He says, "Thank you."

Loserian is eight-years-old and lives with his parents and six siblings in Tanzania. He has an intestinal tumor blocking his bowel, which gives him severe stomach aches and causes him difficulty keeping food down. Loserian constantly feels sick and has missed so much school that he failed his first year of classes. If he doesn't receive treatment soon, his electrolyte imbalance could be fatal. Loserian's father works hard tending to livestock and his mother works as a farm laborer for extra money. With so many dependents in the family, his parents are not able to afford the cost of Loserian's medical treatment. "I pray for him to get well so that he can go back to school and later on, have a better future," Loserian's mother says. "Lord willing, Loserian can help us too." For $900, Loserian will undergo an exploratory laparotomy and tumor resection to identify and remove the tumor. This surgery will eliminate Loserian's chronic stomach aches, vomiting, and risk of lethal electrolyte imbalance. After a full recovery, Loserian will be able to go back to school and play with his siblings.
