Meet Nimusiima, a 28-year-old mother from Uganda. Nimusiima was eight months pregnant when she arrived at the hospital with severe abdominal pain.
Doctors quickly realized that her baby is in breech position, with the feet down and head facing up. Nimusiima also has a contracted pelvis, which puts her at higher risk for labor complications.
To minimize her risk, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), has recommended Nimusiima undergo an elective Caesarean section. “After an elective C-section, Nimusiima will be able to deliver her baby safely,” AMHF explains.
$160 will cover the C-section. AMHF continues, “Nimusiima is not in position to afford the surgery because she runs a small business and her husband is unemployed. It is this small business that feeds and looks after the entire family.”
She and her husband already have one child together, and they have adopted her late brother’s two children as well.
“I felt scared when the doctor told me about my baby, but I hope he will do what is necessary so that my baby is safe,” shares Nimusiima.
