This little boy is Elias, a two-year-old from Guatemala who is lethargic, beginning to lose weight, and is not growing at the rate he should be. Elias is his mom’s first and only child. Despite his parents’ best efforts, food is scarce and the family has been hard pressed to afford the necessary nutrition for Elias to grow up healthy. Elias’ family needs $525 for intensive nutritional therapy. The money will also cover nutritional counseling for his mom, so she will be empowered to make the best of the food resources she has. With your support, we can help Elias and any future siblings to grow up healthy and strong!
Seventeen-year-old Thar is a novice monk who has been living with a cardiac disease since he was born. Thar’s parents own a tea shop to help cover the family necessities, and his sister, who works in a sewing factory, sends money as often as she can to help support the family. When he was young, Thar's physical and cognitive development was slow. Thar was often extremely weak and sick, which caused him to sit quietly by himself rather than play with the other children. Thar’s mother is “very worried for his health and the costs of paying for his treatment.” She hopes for Thar to be healthy and strong like his peers. In the future, Thar hopes to regain his health and successfully become a monk. For $1,500, we can fund Thar’s surgery and help him achieve those dreams!
Levis is a toddler who is about to celebrate his third birthday! He lives with his mother and grandparents in Kenya, where his mother works as a casual laborer to support the family. Levis was born with hypospadias, a condition in which the urethra is malformed and makes it impossible for him to pass urine properly. If Levis' condition is left untreated, his doctors worry that he will be at risk for infertility and social isolation when he grows up. Levis' grandmother has sought medical attention for him since his birth. She tells his doctors that it breaks her heart that it has taken this long to find help, and that she is hopeful that her grandson can grow up to live a happy adult life. For $1,200, we can pay for Levis to undergo surgery to repair his malformation and return his reproductive system to working order, allowing him to live a healthy and dignified life.
Elina is a 38-year-old woman from the Philippines and the devoted caretaker of her husband and nephew. For the past six months, Elina has experienced severe abdominal pain, which is preventing her from carrying out her normal work and enjoying her life. An ultrasound facilitated by our medical partner revealed that Elina has nine centimeter cysts on both of her ovaries. While some women live with these types of cysts, cysts larger than five centimeters must be removed through surgery to prevent debilitating pain, bleeding, and other complications. Elina’s husband works as a security guard, but he's struggling to save enough money to pay for his wife's $640 operation. With our help, Elina can get the care she needs to resume her normal life!
