Say hello to Saroeun! She lives in Cambodia with her husband and two children, where she works as a farmer. When she’s not farming, Saroeun loves cooking for her family, and is also a fan of old music and TV news.
Unfortunately, working on the farm has been impossible for Saroeun recently. “Saroeun has been experiencing back and hip pain for over 10 years,” our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), reports. The discomfort includes both of her hips, and has been worsening lately. Because of this, “it is painful for her walk more than 10 meters.”
Despite her pain, Saroeun traveled four hours to CSC to seek treatment for her symptoms. There, she was diagnosed with recurrent hip dislocation.
In order to recover from this condition, Saroeun needs a hip replacement. Fortunately, we can help her get one. For $430, surgeons will remove the damaged parts of her hip and insert artificial parts in their place. This sum will also pay for Saroeun’s post-operative care: the 5-day hospital stay, physiotherapy, and x-rays that will ensure her healthy recovery from the surgery.
Saroeun looks forward to receiving this much-needed procedure. "I hope after surgery I can walk without pain,” she says. “After I am healed I will go back home and work to support my family."
