Khin was diagnosed with congenital heart disease shortly after he was born. As a child, his parents managed his symptoms with medication, despite knowing that he would eventually need surgery for his condition to improve. When Khin turned 22, doctors informed his family that he absolutely needed surgery, and that it would cost 6 million kyat ($6,000). His parents have been trying for three years to raise the money, an unfathomable amount for them. Khin is now 25, and still, no surgery. Khin's mother is the family's primary source of income for the family. She works as a day laborer, constructing bamboo walls for buildings. Khin's father is in poor health. He works when he can, but is unable to do so consistently. Khin helps with administrative tasks in his mother's shop, but his condition makes it difficult for him to work for long periods of time. Together, Khin and his mother make enough to cover the family's daily expenses, but they are unable to save and cover extra costs (like medical expenses). Khin is hopeful that treatment will change his life for the better, allowing him to support his parents since they have taken care of him for so long. He also hopes to work to pay off the loans his parents took out to cover his earlier treatments and medications. For $1,500, Khin will receive treatment to repair the ventricular defect in his heart responsible for his condition. This is someone who really deserves the support of the world behind him. Let's help Khin realize his potential and alleviate the burden of his health from his dedicated and caring parents!
