Joyline is a humble 9-year-old girl. She's the only child in her family and was born with a bilateral clubfoot condition. Her father is a farmer while her mother is a housewife. Together their family lives in a rural area of Kenya. Joyline has clubfoot of both legs. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Joyline cannot put on shoes, walk or play with her friends. Her situation makes her lead a lonely life as her father put it. She underwent foot surgery in 2020 and her condition was partially corrected. Joyline is now scheduled to undergo a corrective osteotomy surgery. The family is not in a financial position to cater for the surgery and is appealing for financial assistance. Fortunately, Joyline's family traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on November 22nd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,286 to fund Joyline's clubfoot repair. After treatment, Joyline will be able to put on both shoes, walk comfortably, play with other children and continue with her education uninterrupted. Joyline's father says, “Being our firstborn child, we would love to see her grow well, join school and excel in life. Any help to make her foot look and feel better would be highly appreciated.”

Eugene is a 5-year-old student and the second born in a family of two siblings. His older brother is in grade three. His mother shared that she did not manage to further her own studies due to financial problems. Eugene's father passed away last year after a long illness and his mother is the only breadwinner for their family. She farms maize and beans on a rented piece of land. During the harvest, she sells some in order to support her children and their family uses the rest at home. She lives at her late husband’s ancestral home, in a timber-roomed house. She also keeps some hens which provide them with eggs and meat. Since two months ago, Eugene has had bilateral hydrocele. The hydrocele causes him pain and discomfort. Fortunately, on November 11th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $733 to fund Eugene's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Eugene’s mother says, "I am the only breadwinner. Kindly, assist me to raise the hospital bill for my son.’’

Sothy is a six-year-old boy living in Cambodia with his mother. Like many other children his age, Sothy goes to kindergarten and enjoys playing with toy cars. He also has some stranger shyness. However, his shyness has grown worse as a result of his strabismus. Strabismus, commonly known as “cross-eyes,” is caused by the lack of coordination of the eye muscles. Sothy was born with his eyes turned inwards, and this has impaired his depth perception and visual acuity. If left untreated, Sothy could eventually lose vision from one or both of his affected eyes. For $290 Sothy will receive extraocular muscle surgery that will correct the alignment of his eyes by tightening the muscles behind his each eye until they are aligned. The cost of surgery will also cover three days of inpatient care. Extraocular muscle surgery is very routine, and is the third most common surgery in the United States. After treatment, Sothy will no longer be at risk of losing his vision as a result of his strabismus, and will no longer feel shy about his crossed gaze. Sothy and his mother are excited for the procedure. “I won’t have to worry about him feeling shy around everyone when he grows up,” Sothy’s mother shares.
