Meet 70-year-old Daw Than from Thailand. She's been independent her entire life, having raised her daughter by herself and now contributing largely to the care of her granddaughter (she lives with both at this time). "She begins work as a cleaner at a NGO shortly so she hopes to be well enough to start," Burma Border Projects (BBP) tells us about Daw Than. She is currently having heavy bleeding and severe back pain due to uterine fibroids, which leave her weak, in pain, and unable to walk without hunching over. "It is very important she is well again shortly because she is the sole income earner of the family," BBP continues. With our help, BBP will be able to provide Daw Than the care she needs. $1500 will cover costs, including hospitalization, transportation, and medication. "Treatment will allow her to start her new job and support her daughter and grandmother," writes the BBP team."It will allow her to live pain free and with dignity."

Meet Catherine! Catherine is a 50-year-old mother of four and grandmother of five from Kenya. Catherine raised her children alone after her husband passed away 15 years ago. Her eldest daughter is a housekeeper, her other two daughters are casual laborers on farms, and her only son is still living at home and fully dependent on Catherine. Three months ago, Catherine began experiencing severe abdominal pain and bleeding, making it difficult for her to continue supporting her family. Doctors diagnosed her with uterine fibroids, benign tumors in her uterus. "I want to live a healthy life even as I age," Catherine says. Since then, Catherine's children have come together and raised $250 for a surgery that can get their mom through this challenge. For $635 on our part, Catherine will receive a hysterectomy, a procedure that will remove her uterus and relieve her of severe abdominal pain. Meet Savoeun, a 42-year-old from Cambodia. Savoeun has two sons. He owns a pool table in his village, and earns income by charging his neighbors to use it. It's also his favorite hobby. Savoeun has avascular necrosis, a condition which causes bone deterioration, usually in the patient's knee or hip joints. Last year, Savoeun was able to have his right hip replaced. He is now pain-free on the right side, but he can only walk about five meters before it becomes too painful on the left. He needs our help funding a left hip replacement in order to be fully mobile again. For $500, Savoeun will receive surgery to replace his left hip. Let's help Savoeun walk pain-free again!

This is Lilia, a 30-year-old mother from the Philippines. Lilia required a caesarian section to deliver her first child but, unfortunately, her scar did not heal properly, resulting in a large, painful abdominal hernia. Now pregnant again, Lilia's daily activities are hindered by her hernia, and she needs another caesarian section to ensure a safe delivery. Lilia belongs to an indigenous tribal group in the southern part of the Philippines. She and her husband work as farmers and earn about $10 a month. Due to Lilia's need for treatment, they say, "we have been knocking at doors looking for help and thank you for your compassion."
