Sareth is a 58-year-old husband and father from Cambodia. He and his wife work hard to support their daughter and two grandchildren. When he is not working, he enjoys listening to classical music and exercising. A year ago, Sareth developed cataracts in both of his eyes. Cataracts cause the clear lenses of the eyes become cloudy, preventing light from entering the eye. The cataracts in Sareth’s eyes have progressed to the point of causing partial blindness. With a limited vision, he can no longer work or walk around. The cataracts have also taken a toll on him emotionally. "I have felt so bored, so sad and worried about my eye," Sareth says. If he does not receive treatment, Sareth will be left completely blind. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), can fix Sareth's vision with cataract surgery. During the surgery, the cloudy lenses will be replaced with new, clear lenses. "Sareth will be able to see clearly again and regain his independence,” says CSC. $225 will fund Sareth's operation and a two-day hospital stay, which includes all meals and post-operative medication. "I want to see everything clear and help my family,” says Sareth.

Meet Teresia, a 36-year-old woman from Kenya. "Teresia is married and a mother of four. Her eldest son has just finished high school and is hoping to join a college or university, while the rest are still in school," says our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). "Teresia lives in her matrimonial rural home and works on their one acre of land (she has planted maize) while her husband lives in the city and works at a gas station." Two weeks ago, Teresia had a mastectomy to prevent the spread of breast cancer. To fund this treatment, Teresia and her husband raised over $1,000. However, she developed post-surgical complications, and needs a second surgery to treat a post-surgical wound. Teresia needs to undergo debridement, the removal of infected tissue, and a skin graft, the transplantation of skin, to treat her open wound. She does not have the funds for this additional surgery, which will cost $940. "If the surgery is not done soon, Teresia could develop an infection which would further complicate her recovery," explains AMHF. “I thank God for sending you our way,” says Teresia. “My husband has been worrying about how we will be able to pay for this treatment. I want to get well soon so that I can go back to working on our farm."

This is Anthony, an adorable two-year-old boy from Guatemala. Anthony's had a rough start to life and needs our help! Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq explains that "he had very serious pneumonia about 1 year ago, a very long intensive care stay, and ever since he has been intermittently ill, with frequent diarrhea and respiratory illness, poor appetite, and low energy.” Anthony's mom says she "wants him to be healthy and grow up to be successful." Anthony keeps losing weight from his illness and as a result, is acutely malnourished. Without treatment, he risks permanent growth restriction and brain damage. Wuqu' Kawoq shares that "Anthony's mom has been doing her best to keep him healthy, but she is overwhelmed by the high cost of his care and has had trouble making ends meet." With $535, Anthony will receive treatment to that will help him grow, gain weight, and meet developmental and cognitive milestones.
