Chhengmean is a 13-year-old student from Cambodia. She has three younger siblings who live with her parents, while Chhengmean lives with her aunt and grandparents. She is in 4th grade and enjoys studying Khmer. Chhengmean also loves cooking and making pork and rice. When she was 7 years old, Chhengmean developed an ear infection that caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her left ear to perforate. As a result, Chhengmean experiences pain, tinnitus, and pus, along with hearing loss in her left ear. This makes it difficult for her to hear clearly and has affected her ability to focus in class. Chhengmean traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On December 12th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), is requesting $487 to fund this procedure. This cost covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Chhengmean shared that, after undergoing surgery, she hopes she will be able to pay attention at school without hearing loss or discomfort!

Nashon is a father of four from Kenya. He works at a garage washing cars for clients, but unfortunately, the swelling in his finger has prevented him from working since December. His wife is currently unemployed, so his family relies on Nashon's income for their needs. In December, Nashon accidentally jammed his index finger into a door. At first, the small mark on his finger didn't seem serious, so he didn't pay much attention. However, his finger began to swell after a week, and the pain worsened, eventually spreading to his whole arm. Nashon visited a nearby clinic, where he was given painkillers, but his condition never improved. In January, Nashon was able to come to our facility for treatment. By then, his finger's condition had worsened severely to include intense pain and infection, requiring urgent surgery to clean the wound, remove dead tissue, and properly close it. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Nashon receive treatment. On February 7th, surgeons will perform a debridement and skin graft procedure to help relieve his pain and allow him to recover and return to work to continue providing for his family. AMH is requesting $1,185 to fund this procedure. Nashon said: "Right now, no one wants to be near me because of the smell from my finger. My family is left depending on the kindness of others, as I can no longer provide for them."

Ezra is a very talkative and active boy. He would like to be a truck driver when he grows up. He's in grade five and the last born in a family of five children. A few years ago, his father fell into a deep hole he was digging and broke both of his legs. He has been recovering well but he is still unable to work. His mother, who is the sole breadwinner of the family does farming, ploughs farms, and does laundry for their neighbors to provide for the family. The family can not raise the required funds to cater for Ezra’s surgery. Ezra was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Ezra is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on October 19th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $847 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Ezra’s mother says, “I was really worried that my son will not get treated but now at least I’m very hopeful that he will.”
