Nheib is a 77-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She has twelve grandchildren and enjoys watching television and listening to the monks pray in her spare time. Two years ago, Nheib developed a cataract in each eye, causing her tearing, irritation, and cloudy vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Nheib learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On March 14, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. Her daughter says, "I hope that after her surgery, my mother will be able to see more clearly and be able to go outside on her own."

Savorn is a potato, watermelon, and rice farmer from Cambodia. She likes to watch Khmer and Thai dramas on TV, as well as listen to the news on the radio. Two years ago, Savorn developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurred vision, pain, photophobia, and itching. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Savorn learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On January 29, doctors will perform small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope that I will be able to see everything more clearly now so I can feed my animals and so I can cook for my family. I also hope that I will be able to anywhere I want by myself."

Kobilo is a farmer from Kenya. She has five children. As a farmer, she plants millet and sorghum for her family’s consumption. This month, Kobilo was involved in a road traffic accident while she was crossing the road. She lost consciousness for hours, and she was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Kobilo sustained a severe tibia fibula fracture. She is now unable to walk or stand using her right leg. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On January 23, Kobilo will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help her walk easily again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $968 to fund this procedure. Kobilo says, “I want to be able to walk, sit, and even feed by myself like any other person.”

Nov is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has a son, six daughters, and twenty grandchildren. She likes to listen to monks pray on the radio. Four years ago, Nov developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, photophobia, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Nov learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On October 2, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I want to go to the pagoda and take care of my grandchildren."

Ya is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has an older brother and an older sister. She likes to watch TV, cook, and spend time at home. One year ago, Ya had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her left ear to perforate. For this reason, Ya experiences itchiness and hearing loss. She cannot hear well. Ya traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 1, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. She says, "I hope I will have good hearing and my ear will heal soon."

Sarah is a student from Haiti. She lives with her parents, brothers, and sisters in a rural area in the mountains of central Haiti. Her parents are both farmers. Sarah has graduated kindergarten but is not attending first grade this year because of her illness. Sarah has a cardiac condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. This diagnosis involves several related defects, including a hole between two chambers of the heart and a blockage of one of the valves. Sarah will fly to Cayman Islands to receive treatment. On November 10, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will close the hole in her heart with a patch and remove the muscular blockage in her valve. Another organization, Health City Cayman Islands, is contributing $22,000 to pay for surgery. Sarah's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Sarah's family overseas. Her aunt says, "Our family is very excited for Sarah's surgery so that she can be healthy and safe, and can go to school."
