Kevin joined Watsi on December 8th, 2017. 15 other people also joined Watsi on that day! Kevin's most recent donation supported Phally, a man from Cambodia, to fund fracture repair surgery.
Kevin has funded healthcare for 2 patients in 2 countries.
Phally is a rice farmer from Cambodia. He has one son and one daughter. He likes to watch TV, play sports, and spend time with his children. Seven months ago, he was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture in his leg. It is difficult for him to walk and he is in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On January 9, Phally will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $430. This procedure will help him walk easily again. He says, "I hope after surgery I won't be in pain and I can return to work."
Marvin is a 15-month-old baby boy from the rural highlands of Guatemala. He is a happy, sociable little boy who loves going to church to watch the musicians. Marvin also enjoys tossing his toy ball to his older brother. Marvin is experiencing symptoms of malnutrition, a dangerous condition that results from consuming too few calories and nutrients. In the short term, this means that Marvin has little energy to grow, and he also gets sick more often than other children. The long-term consequences of malnutrition include increased risk of chronic diseases and delayed development. While malnutrition can have devastating effects, it is also very treatable. Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, is asking for $492 to fund treatment for Marvin. On June 22, Marvin will begin routine growth monitoring and nutrient supplementation. Local health workers will also teach Marvin’s mother about nutrition. These interventions will ensure Marvin grows up strong and healthy. Marvin’s mother says, “I am happy to be in the program as it will benefit my son greatly. I hope to learn a lot in the nutrition classes so that I can feed my son better.”
