Durga is a 14-year-old girl from Nepal with rheumatic heart disease, a condition that causes heart palpitations, fever, shortness of breath, and can be fatal if left untreated. With surgery, Durga’s condition can be treated and she will be able to live a normal, healthy life.
When our Medical Partner sent us Durga’s profile, they flagged it as urgent. Until she has enough money for surgery, she will need a penicillin shot every 21 days. Because she can't walk, her family has to pay for public transportation to the hospital. This is straining their already tight finances and making it less likely that they will ever be able to save enough for the surgery Durga needs.
In an email to Watsi, Durga's doctor said she started crying when he asked her about her dreams for the future. She said she wants to become a teacher but isn't sure whether she will live long enough to achieve her dreams.
We can make sure she does. Let's do this!
