Kampion is a farmer from Malawi. He lives with his wife, and together with their grown children they operate a small family farm. Kampion spends his days tending his land and raising chickens. In his free time, Kampion and his family like to attend their local church. Since April, Kampion has been experiencing pain and urinary difficulty. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Kampion's surgery. On June 7, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. Kampion and his family were incredibly happy to learn his surgery would be funded, and he is looking forward to being more active. He says, "Thank you and bless you."

Irine is a young mother from Kenya. She is a green grocer at a local market. She sells vegetables and fruits. Recently, Irine was injured and visited our medical partner's care center. Upon arrival, she underwent an x-ray and was diagnosed with a tibia fibula fracture. It is difficult for Irene to walk and take care of her children. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On May 4, Irine will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help Irine walk comfortably again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $771 to fund this procedure. Irine says, “I am worried about my health, I want to receive treatment."

Thue is a 40-year-old famer from Burma. Thue lives her husband, three sons, and one daughter. She and her husband work on their farm along with their eldest son. They also raise chicken and pigs, which they sometimes sell if the crops were not good. Two months ago, Thue started experiencing abdominal pain, and she could not sleep and eat well. She lost consciousness several times because of the pain. She visited to the hospital, and the doctor diagnosed her with a gallstone. Thue has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, Thue's symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), Thue is scheduled to undergo her cholecystectomy on April 18. BCMF is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Thue's procedure and care. Thue says, “After I recover, I want to look after my children again and take care of my household."

Thu is a 16-year-old student from Thailand. He lives with his family in Umpeim Mai refugee camp. Thu was diagnosed with a heart condition that involves a malformation of the mitral valve, the valve between the left atrium and left ventricle. This valve controls the flow of blood, but certain conditions may cause blood to flow backward or the valve to narrow. The doctor explained that Thu needs surgery even though he appears to be doing well right now. This condition will only get worse over time. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund a mitral valve replacement for Thu. The treatment is scheduled to take place on December 11 and, once completed, will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. Thu said, “I am very worried about my health. Although I seem to be healthy, the doctor said I must have surgery. What if I get worse? I don’t want to suffer so I want to have surgery if I must.”

Abibatu is a girl from Sierra Leone. Abibatu lives in Freetown, the capital, with her parents and two older brothers. She likes to dress up and to go to church with her family. She has a cardiac condition called Tetralogy of Fallot, a heart condition involving several related defects, including a hole between two chambers of the heart and a muscular blockage in one of the heart's valves. As a result, not enough oxygen is delivered to her body, leaving her sickly and weak. Without surgery, the condition would be fatal. Abibatu will fly to the Narayana Institute Of Cardiac Sciences in Bangalore, India to receive treatment. On July 27, she will undergo cardiac surgery. Abibatu's family also needs help to fund the costs of travel. The $1,343 bill covers her flight to the hospital. Our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, will also provide support to the family as they travel overseas. Her mother says, "Our family is all very excited that there is hope for Kamara to become healthy!"

Sath is a 70-year-old woman from Cambodia. She is married with two sons and six grandchildren. Sath likes to listen to monks pray on the radio and go to the pagoda to pray in her free time. Sath developed a cataract in her left eye about five years ago. The cataract caused her to go partially blind—it blurred her vision and caused her to frequently tear up. It is still difficult for her to see things clearly, and she finds it very difficult to do any work at all. Sath worries about going fully blind in the near future. Sath is scheduled for treatment on August 4. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $211 to fund small-incision cataract surgery (SICS) to remove the cataract. Some of this money will also go towards an intraocular lens (IOL), which is a tiny, artificial lens implant that replaces the eye's natural lens that is removed during surgery. This surgery will very likely enable Sath to regain her full visual capacity, allowing her to spend quality time with her children and grandchildren.

Jaenie is a 64-year-old widow from Kiambu, Kenya. Earlier this year, Jaenie fractured her hand when she slipped and fell. Her local hospital applied a plaster cast, which was ineffective. Jaenie was advised to have surgery. Jaenie sells vegetables, and her four children work as casual laborers. Unfortunately, they were unable to raise the funds for the surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, has arranged for Jaenie to have an open reduction internal fixation surgery on April 18 to repair her fractured hand. We can help Jaenie regain use of her hand with $998. This will pay for her surgery, hospital stay, and physiotherapy. Jaenie says, "I have hope that I can get well and be able to resume my small business."

Ponna is a 36-year-old driver who is married and has two sons. In his free time, he likes to drink coffee at a cafe, watch boxing on TV, and listen to the news on the radio. In July 2016, Ponna was in a motor vehicle accident, which caused a dislocation of his right hip and a fracture in his left humerus. He was treated at a local hospital, where surgeons performed a closed reduction procedure on his right hip to allow the bone to grow back together. However, his symptoms did not improve, and he began to experience pain in his right femur. Ponna traveled for four hours with his father to reach our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), for treatment. On February 3, surgeons at CSC fixated a traction pin in his right femur. Now, Ponna has returned for a follow-up open reduction internal fixation procedure, which will heal the dislocation and allow Ponna to walk easily again. This procedure is scheduled for February 10. Our medical partner is requesting $411 to fund the procedure.
