Meet Wilfred, a three-year-old boy from rural Guatemala, where he lives with his mother, older brother, and grandparents. He was recently diagnosed with acute malnutrition. With little energy to grow and a weakened immune system, Wilfred is left vulnerable to illnesses that will further compromise his growth. Since discovering that Wilfred has acute malnutrition, Wilfred's mother has become very worried. Unfortunately, she cannot afford treatment for Wilfred without outside help. As a solution, the family is working with our medical partner, Wuqu' Kawoq. On February 10, Wilfred will begin to receive treatment for his malnutrition. Growth monitoring, micronutrients, and food supplementation will help Wilfred recover. The treatment will not only help him grow healthier, but also provide Wilfred's family with the tools to create and maintain nutritious diets. Our medical partner is requesting $782 in funding. "I would like to help him be a strong boy and for him to play with his cousins and his brother," says Wilfred's mother.

Sim is a 72-year-old grandfather from Cambodia. He loves his three children and twelve grandchildren. He likes to read books on Buddhism, listen to monks pray on the radio, and join ceremonies at the pagoda. About a year ago, Sim developed cataracts in both eyes. This causes him to experience blurred vision and photophobia (extreme sensitivity to light). It is difficult for him to see things clearly, do work around the house, or go places on his own. He is worried about going blind. Sim traveled three hours with his daughter to reach our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), and their care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. He is scheduled to receive cataract surgery on February 13. Our medical partner is requesting $292 to cover the cost of surgery. After treatment, Sim will be able to see clearly again.

Edsen is a 16-year-old tenth grade student from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He lives with his older cousin and loves computers. He hopes to have a career in information technology one day. Edsen was born with two cardiac conditions, double outlet right ventricle (DORV) and pulmonary atresia. Together, this set of complex defects severely limits his heart's ability to supply blood to his lungs and causes blood to flow back into his heart. For surgeons to understand if Edsen's condition is operable, he needs to undergo a cardiac CT scan, a procedure that is unavailable in Haiti. Edsen will be flown to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on February 7. He will be treated at our medical partner's care center, Hospital General Plaza de la Salud. Our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, is asking for $985 to cover the cost of Edsen's travel fees, CT scan procedure, and lab work. "I am very thankful to everyone who is giving me the chance to take this trip," says Edsen. "I am hopeful that I can have my heart problem fixed."

Eunice is a 22-year-old mother from Uganda. She and her husband, Hudu, have one daughter and are currently expecting their second child. Eunice is a student in a tertiary institution, while her husband is a driver. Eunice enjoys spending time with friends and watching her daughter play with the other children in the community. Eunice has a severe form of oligohydromnios, a condition characterized by a deficiency of amniotic fluid. She also delivered her first child through C-section. For these reasons, her doctors consider her pregnancy to be high-risk. They recommend that she receive medical attention before, during, and after labor to ensure a safe delivery. On February 6, she will begin to receive supplements and attend antenatal checkups and health education classes. She will deliver her baby in the hospital, where she will undergo a C-section. After birth, Eunice and her baby will be monitored by the hospital staff. Our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, is requesting $241 to help Eunice safely deliver her baby. Eunice is looking forward to giving birth to a healthy child. She says, "Thank you so much for the help with my safe delivery."
