Nahabwe is a mother to two children who are in nursery school. She studied and completed seventh grade in school herself, but never proceeded due to lack of money for school fees. She earns a living from farming: growing food crops for home but sells off the surplus to earn money for her family. Her husband is also a farmer. He grows spicing food crops like onions, green papers, and tomatoes. He rents land for farming and doesn't have modern agricultural materials, which has hindered his productivity and profits. Nahabwe has had lower abdominal pain for a period of close to a year now. Her pain comes in conjunction with severe episodic backaches, with headaches, and she feels easily fatigued whenever she does small amounts of work. Nahabwe shared that she has always been in and out of clinics misdiagnosed and treated for urinary tract infections but when she saw no relief over the years, she decided to come at Nyakibale Hospital and see the gynaecologist. She was examined and the diagnostic scan showed a large cystic mass that needs to be removed. Without sufficient income for her family, she is requesting support for the surgery which will cost $220.

Susan is a young girl from Tanzania. She is the second born child in a family of four children. She is a happy girl and always has a smile on her face. Susan has not had the chance to join school yet due to her feet being wrongly positioned making walking difficult. Her parents are concerned that she will struggle to walk to and from school every day. The school is a long distance from their home and her parents can’t afford to pay for motor bike rides to school. Both her parents depend on small scale farming for their daily life living. Fortunately, Susan traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on November 19th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $890 to fund Susan's clubfoot repair. After treatment, She will be able to walk easily. Susan’s father says, “Please help treat our daughter’s legs we can’t afford the treatment cost.”

Meet Nyo, a 47-year-old woman who lives with her husband, two children, and two grandchildren in Burma. Her husband and children work in the corn fields, and Nyo stays at home to take care of her granddaughters. Nyo was recently diagnosed with a uterine myoma. Caused by the abnormal development of uterus muscle cells, these benign fibroid masses grow and multiply within the uterus. Our medical partner, Burma Border Projects (BBP) explains, "The mass on her uterus has gradually gotten bigger and she is really worried about it." This condition causes Nyo discomfort in addition to issues with urination. When Nyo was told that she needed to have surgery to remove the mass, her family was very concerned about their ability to afford the treatment. Since Nyo's daughter had to stop working to look after the grandchildren while Nyo left to visit the clinic, their family's income has been reduced during this time. For $1500, doctors will perform a total abdominal hysterectomy--removing her cervix and uterus along with the fibroids. In addition to relieving Nyo's discomfort and urination problems, this procedure will simultaneously prevent fibroids from redeveloping in the future. "I wish to see my granddaughters grow up happy and healthy," Nyo tells us. "I hope that I will be cured from my condition so I can work again and can support my family."
