33-year-old Samphors lives with her husband in Cambodia. In her free time, she works in a factory and enjoys cooking and taking care of her parents.
“Since Samphors was five years old, she has had recurrent discharge and hearing loss in both ears,” our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), tells us. “Her right ear is especially painful and she a perforated eardrum on each side.”
“I am unhappy that I have ear pain and it is difficult for me to communicate with other people,” Samphors shares. “Sometimes, I can’t work.”
Samphors and her sister traveled for five hours to reach CSC, after hearing about the organization on the radio. She needs a bilateral myringoplasty, a surgical reconstruction of the tympanic membrane in which doctors patch the perforated area of the eardrum.
“After a myringoplasty on each side, Samphors will stop having ear discharge and her hearing will improve,” CSC explains. “The surgeries will take place six weeks apart, with the operation on her right side happening first.”
Surgery and treatment will happen at the Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre and cost $598.
“I hope after the operation that my ear discharge will stop and I can have good hearing,” says Samphors.
