Sorn is a 63-year-old grandmother from Cambodia. She is married and has one son and two grandchildren. Sorn lives with her husband, who is a farmer, and her son, who makes and sells firewood. One year ago, Sorn developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her to experience eye tearing and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Sorn learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On September 1st, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Sorn says,"I hope my vision will improve and I can see clearly again."

Kembabazi is a 33 year old mother of three, living in Uganda. She sells roasted maize during the day, and also works at a hotel in the evening, in order to take care of her children and her aging parents, with whom she lives. As she is separated from her husband, she is the sole support for her family, and she works hard to realize her dream of making sure that her children receive a good education. Five years ago, Kembabazi began to experience troubling symptoms, including shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. Additionally, she can hardly turn her neck to either side. After a visit to the doctor, she was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter, for which she needs surgery, to keep her symptoms from worsening. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Kembabazi to get the care that she needs. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on September 27th at Karoli Lwanga Hospital, Nyakibale, at which time surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. Kembabazi and her family need your help to raise the $252 needed to pay for this procedure. Kembabazi says: “I have hopes that I will get well after I am given your support to undergo my surgery.”

Sylivia is a 50-year-old widow of 18 years from southwestern Uganda. She has five daughters and currently lives with her seven-year-old grandson. Prior to the development of her medical condition, Sylivia ran a small restaurant in her village and grew a lot of her own food. Despite her troubles, she remains an active member of her church. For the past three years, Sylivia has been suffering from extreme pelvic pain. She had been prescribed pain killers, but they have not helped. Upon examination at the hospital, Sylivia was diagnosed with a large pelvic cyst that requires surgical removal. To fund a laparotomy for Sylivia, our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, is requesting $307 on top of the $7 that Sylivia has contributed towards her own surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on June 28 and, once the cyst is removed, will hopefully allow Sylivia to return to her former lifestyle. "Please send my great thanks to all the donors.
