Noch is a six-year-old student from Cambodia. She has an older sister and a younger brother. Her parents farm for a private company; her mother grows rubber trees, and her father takes care of durian trees. Noch loves studying Khmer, eating rice with fried eggs, and playing with her toys. Since birth, Noch has been living with harmatoma, which causes multiple masses on her face. It is a benign and abnormal growth of tissue. Over the years, the masses have grown larger, causing pain, fever, and discomfort. Her mother shared that Noch is shy at school and is often teased by her classmates about her appearance. This has made her worry that it might affect her confidence and lead to feelings of isolation, especially as she grows older. Noch traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On December 6th, surgeons will remove the mass. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, needs help to raise $273 to fund Noch's procedure. Noch's mother shared, "I hope that after surgery, Noch’s appearance will improve and she will feel more comfortable and confident around others."

Besufikad is a four-month-old baby boy and the first child of his mother from Ethiopia. His mother grew up in a rural area, raised by her parents, who were farmers. Unfortunately, when war broke out, her parents were killed, forcing her to flee to Addis Ababa. Besufikad's mother was working as a domestic worker but her employer asked her to leave when she told them she was pregnant. She lived on the streets and relied on others for food. When she went into labor, a friend took her to a health center, where she gave birth. Besufikad was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital condition that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. He needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction. They visited a hospital where Besufikad was given a colostomy bag to help with his condition. Returning to the streets with Besufikad's health issues was difficult. Doctors suggested that they go to a charity home, where they stayed until Besufikad was given a schedule for his surgery. Besufikad will undergo surgery to correct his condition on August 13th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Besufikad's procedure and care. After his recovery, Besufikad will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future. Besufikad's mom said, “I hope my baby will get the necessary treatment and heal.”

Honesty is a two-year-old boy from Tanzania. He is an only child and currently lives with his grandparents. Honesty was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus where his legs bow outward. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. He is experiencing difficulties with walking. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $810 to fund treatment for Honesty. The procedure is scheduled to take place on December 3rd at our medical partner's care center, Kafika House. Treatment will hopefully restore Honesty's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Honesty's grandmother says: "Please help my grandson. We only wish to see him in good health. I hope this treatment will help correct his legs."

Pasry is a 67-year-old rice farmer with three daughters, three sons, and five grandchildren. He lives with his wife, who is a farmer, and his second daughter, who is a teacher. He likes to listen to the news on the radio and visit the local temple in his free time. About four months ago, Pasry developed a cataract in his right eye causing him tearing and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Pasry learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On September 20th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Pasry shared, "I hope I can see clearly after surgery. I can go back to the rice field and can plant vegetables to help feed my grandchildren."

Khom is a 52-year-old farmer. She lives with her daughter and has five other children who live nearby, along with many grandchildren. Sadly, her husband passed away several years ago. She works seasonally and spends most of her time in the off-season taking care of her grandchildren. She also likes making Khmer cakes and listening to the radio. In December 2020, she was in car accident that caused multiple fractures to her left arm and leg. Her family took her to a government hospital where doctors affixed hardware to heal the fractures. However, she could not afford continued treatment and the hardware has caused complications. The hardware on her left leg has become exposed and infected. She cannot walk and she experiences chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August 18th, Khom will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $465. This procedure will help the fractures heal completely, and eventually help her walk easily again. Khom shared, "I am glad that these doctors can help me, and I hope that I can recover soon return to my family."
