"Ana has a very severe form of genetically related diabetes," her doctor at our medical partner in Guatemala writes. "Ana was diagnosed with diabetes about 6 months ago, and her symptoms are very severe, including very high blood sugar levels, severe weight loss, lack of appetite, dizziness, and blurry vision. Because of these symptoms she has trouble taking care of her children and performing tasks around the house."
Ana is a K'iche' speaking Maya woman from central Guatemala. She lives with her husband and two children. Economically, her diagnosis has been very difficult time for them, as the cost of medications for diabetes exceeds their family's budget for basic necessities such as food.
"When Ana is feeling well she likes to spend time with her family," her doctor says. "She also enjoys embroidering, and she makes embroidered blouses that she sells to supplement income. However, because of visual disturbances from diabetes, she is currently unable to do this. She hopes to improve, so that she can continue to make some extra money and help out her family!"
Ana tells us that her dream is to, "prevent complications from my diabetes, so that I can live many years and watch my children grow up."
That's where we can help. For only $450, we can pay for Ana's diabetes treatment and get her started on a healthy path towards living with her diabetes.
