Pout is 63 years old and lives in Cambodia. He has two sons and two daughters. He is a patient with our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), and he developed cataracts in each eye four months ago. This has caused him partial blindness, irritation, and cloudy lenses. In Pout's own words, “it is hard for me to see everything and everyone clearly, go anywhere outside, and do my work well.”
Cataracts occur when the lens inside the eye becomes cloudy, which causes decreased vision and functional blindness. $225 funds cataract surgery that will remove the cloudy lenses from both of his eyes and replace them with artificial lenses. Funding for his surgery includes post-operative care, and after the surgery, he will be able to see clearly again.
Pout likes to spend his time working around the house and watching boxing on TV. Surgery will help him resume these activities he enjoys.
“I hope [after surgery] my eyes can see everything clearly," Pout adds, "so I can easily help my family plant bananas and corn, and go outside anywhere by myself."
