“Nurdin is a happy little three-year-old boy,” says our medical partner, the African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). He lives in Tanzania with his parents and two sisters. “Nurdin is very joyful when he is with his mother, but as soon as his mother walks a few steps away from him he starts to cry,” AMHF says.
“A year and a half ago, Nurdin put his hand in a pot full of boiling tea. His sister was alone in the kitchen preparing morning tea for everyone. When she stepped out to quickly wash the thermos, Nurdin woke up and without knowing, he put his hand into the boiling tea! Nurdin was treated for months until the wound healed, but from then on he was unable to straighten his 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th fingers,” AMHF explains.
As a result of his injury, the skin around Nurdin’s fingers tightened, leaving him with severe burn scar contracture that will prevent him from gripping objects, like a pencil, as he grows. A $550 treatment will relieve the contracture and allow him to use his hand normally again. “I just want my son to be able to use his hand,” says Nurdin’s mother. Let’s help him out so he can have a functional hand and one day go to school.
