One evening, Isaac left work and on his way home decided to pass by the market to buy food for his family. On his way home while carrying the food on his head, he was knocked down by a motorcycle that sped off. Isaac was found helpless by the roadside and bleeding when some community members took him to a hospital. At the hospital, he was given a skin balanced traction, but could not afford further care.
Isaac is the oldest of five children from a big family in Uganda. He is 19 years old and works as a cleaner at a local health facility.
Even after six months, Isaac’s left femur bone is still broken. He has difficulty standing and walking without using support, and is no longer able to work as a cleaner. Although his parents do farm labour to provide for the family, their income is not enough to cover Isaac’s operation. However, with treatment that costs $534, Isaac can get back on his feet.
Isaac can undergo an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) procedure of the left femur bone to properly align it. Our medical partner, the Kellermann Foundation, is confident this procedure will significantly improve Isaac's life.
“I want to get well and be able to provide for my siblings and support my parents," Isaac says.
